New device
How to add a new device to your dashboard
For a device to show up on your dashboard, you first need to register it — that is, claim it for yourself. You'll find the link for that in the sidebar under New device, right next to Dashboard.
A device can be registered by more than one person, and then shows up on each of their dashboards — handy when a device is shared by a family or a team.
This page is part of your dashboard, so it requires dashboard access — like the dashboard itself, you normally have this automatically once you're logged in.
Registering a device
Enter your device's ID in the input field. It's made up of the device type and a code (format <type>-<code>) and is printed on the device itself, as well as on its settings' info page.
Alternatively, you can scan the QR code on that info page — you'll land on this form automatically, with the ID already filled in.
Before submitting, you'll need to pass a short security check (a small, automatic checkbox widget) — this keeps the form from being abused by automated bots.
If the device isn't found
A brand-new device has to have reported to the cloud at least once before it can be registered here — after first setup that can take a few minutes, occasionally a bit longer. If the form says "not found", just wait a little and try again.
Once registered, the device appears on your dashboard right away — even if someone else has already registered it too.
Registering a device currently doesn't verify that you're actually entitled to it — anyone who knows its ID can add it to their own dashboard. This will change with an upcoming feature that requires a device's existing owner(s) to approve new registration requests first.
